Bill Belichick remained stoic Wednesday morning as the press peppered the New England Patriots head coach with questions about a report that came out Tuesday evening owner Rober Kraft was set to part ways him.
The 3-10 Patriots team has underperformed expectations in New England this season. As of Sunday, the Patriots are assured to be out of the playoffs for the third time in four seasons. The biggest issue for the Patriots is that the offense has failed to be dynamic since Tom Brady left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Bill Belichick doesn’t deny the report of his future firing date
Belichick is expected to remain with the Patriots until after the regular season ends. And Belichick appears more worried about Sunday than his fate in January. According to Mike Reiss with ESPN, Belichick didn’t deny the report of his firing following the Patriots final game of the season in Week 18 against the New York Jets:
“The report sparked multiple questions to Belichick on Wednesday morning, in the coach’s first media availability leading into Sunday’s game. Belichick was asked whether it was his understanding that Kraft wouldn’t ask him back, whether he still wanted to coach beyond 2023, and whether there have been any internal discussions about his future.
Each time, he responded by saying: “I’m getting ready for Kansas City.
Belichick has four more games to finish out what has been an incredible career in New England. He’s won six Super Bowls and built an empire that spanned two decades as the Patriots have amassed over 260 wins since 2000.
Unfortunately for the Patriots and Belichick, empires in sports eventually end.
