The Arizona Cardinals took the best wide receiver prospect in the last decade with their first pick of the 2024 draft in Marvin Harrison Jr. Now the team is looking to add more depth at the receiver position for their star quarterback Kyler Murray.
The Cardinals were at the very bottom of their division this past season, and a lot of that had to do with Murray not being able to play due to injury. This year is going to be huge in determining what the Cardinals will do with their number one overall quarterback heading into the future.
Arizona Cardinals Are Set To Visit With Veteran Zay Jones
Per Tzvi Machlin of The Spun:
According to Bleacher Report via ProFootballTalk, the Cardinals are hosting free agent wide receiver Zay Jones for a visit. Jones spent the last two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars and played for the Las Vegas Raiders and Buffalo Bills before that.
Jones has had the best stretch of his career with the Jaguars and would look to build on that with his next team. 2022 was the best year of Jones’ career so far where he totaled 82 receptions for 823 yards and five touchdowns – all career-highs – and even had another 13 receptions for 152 yards and a touchdown in the postseason of that season.
Jones had shown that he can be a very solid two or three for a good offense in the NFL. 2023 was more of a down year for Jones which is why he has still not managed to sign with a new team yet. He only played nine games and totaled just 34 receptions for 321 yards and two touchdowns.
Arizona Cardinals Need More Fire Power
The Cardinals may not be bothered by Jones’ down year this past season as this team needs to bring in a lot more help than just Harrison Jr. to bolster this offense. Arizona does not have an impressive receiver room at all as the room consists of; Harrison, Greg Dortch, Michael Wilson, Zach Pascal, Chris Moore and rookie Tejhaun Palmer.
The team has brought in other players as well for training camp, but Jones would be the number 2 or 3 receiver today if he was signed by the Cardinals.
If the meeting goes well, we should see Jones get a contract soon. Would he be a good addition for Kyler Murray?
