Rashee Rice has admitted he was involved in the hit-and-run accident that occurred in Dallas, TX on March 30, 2024, according to reports from the New York Post and TMZ,
The incident and its fall-out have been reported on extensively by Gridiron Heroics. (Previous articles are linked below.)
In 2022, Rice was a second-team All-American wide receiver for the SMU Mustangs. He was drafted in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. He is now a Super Bowl Champion, and he caught two passes from Patrick Mahomes on the Chiefs’ game-winning drive in Super Bowl LVIII.
Media Reports Regarding Rashee Rice’s Admitted Involvement
Although Dallas police have yet to confirm Rice was involved in the hit-and-run accident, evidence is coming out that the star wide receiver was driving one of the vehicles involved in the “chain-reaction” accident.
Per the New York Post:
“Rashee Rice admitted to being involved in the six-car crash in a text to the company that owned the Lamborghini he leased, according to a TMZ report on Tuesday.
“The Super Bowl-winning Chiefs receiver was in the Lamborghini that was racing a friend who was driving a Corvette [Rice owns] on the North Central Expressway in Dallas around 6:20 p.m. on Saturday[,] leading to the massive collision, which included wrecking the Lamborghini.
“According to TMZ, Rice texted The Classic Lifestyle, the company that owns the 2021 matte black luxury car he leases for $1,749 a day to say he was involved in the crash.
“Rice was the only person permitted to drive the car, an attorney for Classic Lifestyle told TMZ.”

On April 2, 2024, TMZ reported:
“Rashee Rice was involved in the car crash that injured multiple people in Dallas Saturday … and he admitted it to the company that owns the [Lamborghini] … TMZ Sports has learned.”
“Rice owned the Corvette that was involved in the crash and leased the Lambo from a company called The Classic Lifestyle. Rice was in the Lambo at the time of the crash and, according to the leasing agreement, he’s the only person who was permitted to drive the car … this according to Kyle Coker, the attorney representing Classic Lifestyle.”
“Coker tells TMZ Sports, Rice fired off a text shortly after the wreck, acknowledging he was involved in the crash and promising to pay for the Lambo, which was totaled.”
“We’re told one of Rice’s friends was driving the Corvette.
“Coker says Rice — a Classic Lifestyle customer since his days as a student at SMU — was leasing the 2021 matte black Lambo for $1,749 a day….
“It appeared the drivers of the Lambo and Corvette were racing when they caused a massive accident on a Dallas expressway. Miraculously, no one was seriously injured.
“TMZ Sports first reported, Rice was with friends at a bar/restaurant called Local Tap & Table hours before the crash, where they were seen celebrating.
“Rice’s attorney said he is cooperating with police … and “will take all necessary steps to address this situation responsibly.”
“Both the NFL and the Chiefs, meanwhile, have said they’re looking into the situation.”
Potential Consequences — From Criminal Conviction to Suspension by the NFL
The law in Texas provides penalties for motorists who flee from the scene of an accident:
“After an accident, drivers in Texas have a duty to stop and provide contact information to the other driver.”
Leaving the scene of an accident can result in criminal charges pursuant to Texas Transportation Code § 550.002.
“Failure to stop after an accident can result in criminal penalties, including possible imprisonment in cases of an injury or fatal accident….
“The penalties for leaving the scene of an injury accident or fatal accident are more serious. Failing to stop at the scene of an accident involving injury or death is:
- A second-degree felony if the accident resulted in death,
- A third-degree felony if the accident resulted in serious bodily injury, or
- A county jail felony if the accident did not result in death or serious bodily injury.
“The criminal penalties for leaving the scene of an injury accident can result in prison time, jail time, and/or fines.”
Fortunately, the injuries involved in this incident appear to have been minor. Hence, Rice is likely only facing misdemeanor or low-grade felony charges. A discretionary charging decision will be made by Texas prosecutors.
In addition to criminal sanctions, Rice also faces a potential suspension from the NFL. Indeed, as previously reported in Gridiron Heroics, the NFL is monitoring the situation.
