Rice, Who Grew Up in the Greater Dallas/Fort Worth Area, Was a Star Receiver at SMU
Rice was born in Philadelphia, PA, but grew up in North Richland Hills, which is located near Dallas. Coming out of high school, he was a highly sought after recruit. He decided to stay near home and became a Mustang.
In 2022, Rice was a second-team All-American wide receiver for the SMU Mustangs. He was drafted in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. He is now a Super Bowl Champion, and he caught two passes from Patrick Mahomes on the Chiefs’ game-winning drive in the Super Bowl.

Preliminary Reporting Concerning the Hit and Run Incident
On March 31, 2024, USA TODAY reported:
“The Kansas City Chiefs’ offseason took a strange turn when reports of Rashee Rice’s potential involvement in a serious automobile accident in Dallas surfaced early on Sunday morning.
“It is unclear whether Rice was at the wheel when the accident occurred, but a vehicle registered to him was involved in a crash, according to the Dallas Morning News.
“Police in Dallas were searching for Rice, the newspaper reported, though his connection to the accident remains murky.
“Rice was selected by the Chiefs in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft and found a significant role in Kansas City’s offense by the end of last season.
“A Dallas native, Rice played his college ball at Southern Methodist and became one of Patrick Mahomes’ favorite targets after attending the then-reigning MVP’s throwing sessions in the Lone Star State last offseason.”
CBS reported:
“A six-vehicle car crash on Saturday in Dallas, Texas, has led to a police search for Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice, according to the Dallas Morning News. The report states that a vehicle believed to be registered or leased to Rice was involved in an accident at 6:20 p.m. local time on Saturday.
“Dallas police spokeswoman Kristin Lowman explained that the preliminary investigation shows someone in a Chevrolet Corvette and someone in a Lamborghini were speeding in the far left lane, when both drivers lost control. The Lamborghini went onto the shoulder and ‘hit the center median wall, causing a chain reaction collision involving four other vehicles,’ Lowman said.
“It is not known if Rice was present at the scene, though the police call sheet from The News lists Rice as the suspected driver of the Corvette involved. Police are now searching for the 23-year-old in connection with the accident, but it is unknown if he is facing charges over the crash. Rice was not mentioned in Dallas County jail records as of Sunday morning.”
Per NBC’s Dallas affiliate, four minor injuries were suffered by individuals involved in the accident.
