P.J. Walker is next up for the Cleveland Browns if star quarterback Deshaun Watson can’t go in Week 6 against the San Francisco 49ers. Watson remains day-to-day while nursing a shoulder injury he suffered in Week 3 against the Tennessee Titans. The franchise cornerstone missed their Week 4 game against the Baltimore Ravens before the team enjoyed a bye last Sunday. Rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson drew the start, but his poor performance more than likely led to P.J. Walker jumping him on the depth chart. The Browns lost 28-3 in their first game without Watson available.

P.J. Walker Career Profile
P.J. Walker spent the preseason with the Chicago Bears, playing three games before his release. The 28-year-old went 11-for-23 for 96 yards and a touchdown with an interception. Walker did not log a rushing attempt. He signed with Cleveland just three days later. Walker played in six games, starting five, with the Carolina Panthers in 2022. The five-foot-eleven quarterback completed 59% of his passes for 731 yards and three touchdowns against three picks. However, Walker has thrown just five touchdowns against 11 interceptions in his NFL career, all with the Panthers.

P.J. Walker’s pro career is most notable for his time with the Houston Roughnecks of the XFL in 2020. He led the league in passing yards and passing touchdowns. The Temple product threw for 1,338 yards and 15 scores in five games before the XFL canceled the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Browns QB Room
The Browns will opt for Walker over rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson if star quarterback Deshaun Watson is unavailable. Thompson-Robinson took the NFL world by storm with a fantastic preseason. On the heels of a tremendous career with the UCLA Bruins, Thomson-Robinson, better known as DTR, went 37-of-58 for 446 and two touchdowns against no turnovers in four games. However, his success did not translate into the regular season. DTR pulled the start in the Browns’ most recent matchup but tossed three interceptions while completing just 53% of his passes. Cleveland lost 28-3.

However, this will all be a moot point if Deshaun Watson suits up. Watson was playing his best football before getting injured. He was fresh off a 27-of-33 for 289 yards and two scores in a turnover-free performance.
