Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is making himself felt in the 2024 NFL Draft. He was present during the second day of Senior Bowl workouts, carefully assessing the latest influx of talented football players to decide which ones to target.
One of the 2024 Draft’s top wideouts revealed that the Super Bowl-winning coach approached him and another top prospect for a very specific message.
Pittsburgh Steelers’ Tomlin wanted to see Roman Wilson, Quinyon Mitchell compete
Michigan wide receiver Roman Wilson was interviewed by the media after the second day of practice for the Senior Bowl and was asked about the moment Mike Tomlin pulled him and Toledo RB Quinyon Mitchell aside for a quick talk.

Wilson revealed that the Steelers coach wanted him and Mitchell to go at it:
“I was coming through the Steelers and [Mike Tomlin] was just leaving, and he pulled us both aside, ‘Make sure you all go against each other,'” Wilson said of the moment.
He then went on, saying the coach’s quick encouragement motivated them both. He was especially graceful in praising Mitchell.
“Mitchell definitely took that a little too [seriously]. We pretty much did every single one-on-one together. Very, very good player, very competitive. I think he’s a great guy, I think he’s a tempo setter.”
Los Angeles Chargers also interested in Wilson
The Steelers aren’t the only team interested in picking the Michigan wideout. Reports surfaced that the Los Angeles Chargers are also looking into him, which was brought up by the media.
Wilson then answered that he hadn’t heard from anyone in the organization but expressed interest in heading to LA:
“I don’t know for sure… I think they’re interested in me, hopefully, yeah.”
Wilson will be reconnecting with former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh should the Chargers decide to pick him up. Under his system, he made 48 receptions for 789 yards and 12 touchdowns, and he will likely make minimal adjustments if he does team up with his old college coach.
