When the Pittsburgh Steelers signed veteran quarterback Russell Wilson this offseason, fans and the media went two separate directions with the move. On one side, the Steelers instantly became much more serious contenders. On the other side, Wilson was talked about as a washed up quarterback that does nothing to move the needle for Pittsburgh.
Despite all of the critics hating on the Steelers’ move for Wilson, there is no question that he’s an upgrade from what they had to work with last season.
Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph were the starters from last season. While Wilson may never be the superstar that he once was with the Seattle Seahawks, he is still a star and a much better quarterback than either of the two guys from 2023.
Pittsburgh Steelers, Russell Wilson Receive Huge 2024 Prediction
Former NFL quarterback and widely known NFL Draft bust Ryan Leaf spoke out about the Pittsburgh Steelers and Russell Wilson. He has a bold take on the situation heading into 2024.
“I think Russ still has every bit of a Super Bowl champion quarterback in him — and I don’t think anybody else does. I think he is going to shock a lot of people with Arthur Smith and what they do with that offense.”
Leaf went on to state that he thinks the Steelers could very well end up winning the AFC North division in 2024. That would be a massive accomplishment with the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, and Cleveland Browns all being quality football teams loaded with talent.
Mike Tomlin has never led the Steelers to a losing season. Is it really feasible to think that this year will be that year after they upgraded the quarterback position?
Looking at the roster for the Pittsburgh Steelers, they have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball. If Wilson can even play like he did last season with the Denver Broncos, they’ll be just fine.
During the 2023 season with the Broncos, Wilson ended up completing 66.4 percent of his pass attempts for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns, and just eight interceptions. He also picked up 341 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
Those numbers will be a welcome addition to the Pittsburgh Steelers offense. There is no question that they got better with the addition of Wilson and he’ll be ready to prove his doubters wrong when the season kicks off.
