The Pittsburgh Steelers have been one of the most consistent teams on the NFL when it comes to winning games and finishing with a record above .500, but their playoff success in recent memory has been lackluster since the departure of Ben Roethlisberger and their arsenal of weapons. However, a Steel City star is forming a potential return to the league and indicated that he will only play for one team.
Former All-Pro RB Le’Veon Bell Will Attempt an NFL Comeback in 2024
Le’Veon Bell, who played 5 seasons for the Steelers is attempting a return to the NFL and claims he will start training in March. Bell ran for 5,336 yards and 35 touchdowns in Pittsburgh during his 5 seasons and was named an All-Pro two times.
When his contract was up in 2018, Bell did not receive a new deal and was instead franchise tagged by Pittsburgh. This caused friction between both parties which ended with Bell sitting out the entire 2018 season and asking to be traded. He then signed with the New York Jets as a free agent the following season. Bell never saw the same success he had in Pittsburgh and has since regretted leaving in the first place.
“I never apologized to the fans for sitting out, or leaving the Steelers… So, I want to apologize for leaving the best damn fans there is in the damn world. I shouldn’t have left. I apologize. I should never have left. I apologize. That’s my fault. That’s on me.”

Bell has since been out of the league and dabbling into other interests, even boxing professionally for a little while. While he has not signed with a team since 2022, Bell still believes in himself to make a return and sign with his former team when talking on his Snapchat story.
“I’m telling you all right now. When I go out there and train in March and if I hit April and I decide to make this decision to come back to play in the NFL again, mark my words down. I will be better than I ever was… And I will only come back for that one team. You all know who it is. I don’t have to say a team. You all know who it is.”
Pittsburgh Steelers DE Cam Heyward Believes Bell Can Add to the Offense in 2024
That “one team” Bell is referring to leans towards the Steelers considering his history with the franchise and his regrets towards leaving. While both sides ended on bad terms, his former teammate and defensive lineman Cam Heyward believes that Bell can help this offense next season.
“If (Bell) comes back, we would love to have him. He looked like he was in great shape the last time we saw him. I know we have some great running backs, but he would provide some knowledge to the group, and we’ll take him from there.”
Bell will be turning 32 years old this month and is considered “older” when it comes to the rest of the running backs in the league, but Miami Dolphins lead back Raheem Mostert just led the entire league in touchdowns at the age of 31. If the former All-Pro can continue to train at an NFL level, there is a chance we can see a return in 2024.
