Even if the Pittsburgh Steelers managed to make the playoffs, there are still plenty of questions regarding the quarterback position. The quality of QB play they witnessed throughout the 2023 campaign has some considering their moves for the future.
There are voices in and out of the Steelers organization that don’t believe Kenny Pickett is the man who could take them to the Super Bowl. While Pickett wasn’t the most terrible QB in the NFL last season, he left a lot to be desired when making the passes against NFL-caliber defenses.
While the team is still assessing whether Pickett is still worthy of getting one more shot in the NFL, one critic came forward with hard words towards the team’s front office for insisting on working with something that, in his opinion, clearly doesn’t work.
Stephen A. Smith blasts Pittsburgh Steelers’ trust on Kenny Pickett
Stephen A. Smith appeared on First Take to talk about the current QB situation in Pittsburgh. Judging by the way Smith was talking, it’s easy to figure out that Smith wasn’t thrilled with the team seemingly eager to give the Pitt product one more shot at QB:

Smith even went public and declared that he would rather have quarterbacks like Kirk Cousins, Justin Fields, and Russell Wilson take over the Steelers offense than try to run the passing game through Pickett once again.
Pickett didn’t have the best sophomore campaign for the Steelers this year. The 25-year-old threw for 2070 passing yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions through 12 games before he was benched for Mason Rudolph.
While it’s understandable that Kenny Pickett didn’t meet the expectations set on him, it’s also fair to argue that he didn’t thrive under Matt Canada and Eddie Faulkner. The Pittsburgh Steelers might believe that they might have a better shot with Arthur Smith as the OC, but they can only find out if Pickett is their guy by trying him out next season.
