The Pittsburgh Steelers have been one of the most talked about teams in the NFL this offseason. Unfortunately, it has not always been for positive reasons. While they did acquire two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks, they have more recently been linked to former Green Bay Packers and New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who remains a free agent.
Despite the fact that Pittsburgh is the only team that has shown genuine interest in signing him, Rodgers has yet to decide if he wants to play for the Steelers or retire. He told Pat McAfee last week that matters in his personal life are taking up a great deal of his attention right now and that he is not in any hurry to sign with anyone.
For their part, the Steelers also have not given Rodgers a deadline to make a decision. But that does not mean they are going to wait for him forever.
Pittsburgh Steelers GM Omar Khan Says Team Needs 2 More Quarterbacks, May or May Not Include Aaron Rodgers

As the 2025 NFL Draft nears, Pittsburgh only has two quarterbacks on its roster: Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson. Their two top quarterbacks from last season, Justin Fields and Russell Wilson, both left in free agency.
Fields was signed to replace Rodgers, his former NFC North rival, with the New York Jets. Wilson, meanwhile, has signed with the New York Giants.
At this point, the Steelers feel pretty good about their chances of signing Rodgers. However, since he has no deadline, he is not making a decision yet. That leaves Pittsburgh in a position where they may need to add a couple more quarterbacks, and that is what they intend to do.
General manager Omar Khan said today, “We go to camp with four quarterbacks. Right now, we have two on the roster. All options are on the table on how we acquire those last two.”

Obviously, this could include finally signing the four-time NFL MVP. However, it could also mean they use at least one of their picks in the upcoming draft on a quarterback. They also may look into acquiring Atlanta Falcons veteran, and four-time Pro Bowler, Kirk Cousins.
Of course, their primary focus is landing Rodgers; that has not changed. Whatever the future Pro Football Hall of Famer decides, though, is going to keep the Steelers as a hot topic of conversation this year.
