The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off of an 11-6 season that saw them finish second in the NFC East. After appearing in the Super Bowl in 2022, they were defeated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round last season. The retirement of center Jason Kelce has left some questions unanswered on the offensive line and in regards in leadership in the locker room.
This is not a knock on the rest of the roster. It is simply stating the replacing a Hall of Fame player (and a Hall of Fame person, for that matter) is extremely difficult.
One of the players that can, and has been, stepping up as a leader is quarterback Jalen Hurts, a two-time Pro Bowler and the MVP runner up in 2022.
This was especially put on display during a recent speech he gave at an Eagles’ event called the Women Football Festival.

In the world of sports, Hurts is different than most athletes in terms of his representation. While it is not unusual for a player to have a female agent, Hurts’ management team is entirely comprised of women, led by his agent Nicole Lynn, who negotiated a five-year $255 million contract for him last year.
During the Women’s Football Festival, Hurts had high praise for the women in his life and women in general:
“Women are thrusted into positions to have to overcome this, overcome that and they lack the respect that they deserve.
“I’m here advocating for it, not only in football but in every situation. We all know the woman is the rock of everything.”
When asked about the support of women among the Eagles’ fanbase, Hurts said:
“It’s been great. I honestly think it’s reflective of just how the fan base is here. You see more of a variety of support from women in our community. That’s good for the team.”
Hurts’ comments were made on the heels of Kansas City Chiefs’ kicker Harrison Butker’s commencement speech in which he made several controversial statements regarding women.
Kansas City Chiefs Kicker Harrison Butker Said Women Have Been Told “Diabolical Lies”

During a commencement speech at Benedictine college, Butker said:
“For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment. You should be proud of all that you have achieved to this point in your young lives. I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you. How many of you are sitting here now about to cross this stage and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career?
“Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.
“I can tell you that my beautiful wife, Isabelle, would be the first to say that her life truly started when she began living her vocation as a wife and as a mother. I’m on the stage today and able to be the man I am because I have a wife who leans into her vocation.
“I’m beyond blessed with the many talents God has given me, but it cannot be overstated that all of my success is made possible because a girl I met in band class back in middle school would convert to the faith, become my wife, and embrace one of the most important titles of all: homemaker.”
Butker’s comments have been widely criticized by multiple people of note, but perhaps the most emphatic condemnation of his views came from the very nuns who founded and support Benedictine University.
Kylie Kelce, the wife of Jason, also took some jabs at Butker’s views during his own commencement speech at a different Catholic University this past weekend.
