Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll made a bold statement about how the NFL officiates games following their loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football.
Many Seahawks fans were upset with the high number of penalties that went against them. However, the heavy-handed yellow-handkerchief affair wasn’t lopsided by any means. The Cowboys were penalized for 127 yards; the Seahawks were penalized for 130 yards.
There were 257 total penalty yards on 19 penalties called Thursday night.
Carroll sends message to NFL after Seattle Seahawks loss
According to a video posted by Alyssa Charlston with Fox 13 Seattle, Carroll said after the game the league needed to stop calling so many penalties:
“It’s unfortunate,” Carroll said. “It feels like there’s a whole other factor in this game. I don’t know. You guys saw it a lot better than I did, but there were just way too many penalties in this game from both sides, and we’ve got to get out of that kind of football.”

Carroll should be upset as a head coach with how the games are being called. Penalties affect the slim margins in games, which can be the difference in a coach being fired after the season.
Fans also have a right to complain about the high volume of penalties. They disrupt the flow of the game and make football hard to watch. Fans want to watch the athletes on the field, not the officials.
Of course, the easiest way for that to happen is for the players on the field to play at a high level and not commit penalties. That could take more practice.

My biggest complaint is the spotting of the ball..it is ridiculously places short and they are just lazy..never near the spot of the ending of the play..maybe they need to be younger…and I’m a 63 yr old retired official !
