It has been a fall from grace for Baker Mayfield. Since winning the Heisman award in 2017 the former number one overall selection has had an up and down career. After being traded this past offseason, as the Browns traded for Deshaun Watson, Mayfield looked to make a new start in Carolina. Unfortunately, for all involved that was not the case.
Baker Mayfield Placed On Waivers Monday
As reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Mayfield is expected to be released by the Panthers today by putting him on waivers. If Mayfield clears waiver his contract will be terminated and he will be a free agent. There is one team who lost their starting quarterback yesterday who could take a swing at Mayfield, the San Francisco 49ers.
Sources: The #Panthers are expected to release QB Baker Mayfield. He'll hit waivers when it's finalized later today.

Baker Mayfield to the 49ers

After Jimmy Garoppolo broke his foot and is out for the season could the 49ers be interested in Baker Mayfield. With Garoppolo going on IR the cap space would open up for Mayfield to slide in pretty easily if the 49ers wanted to take a chance on him. It would be a nice fit for both as Mayfield ran an offense at Oklahoma very similar to Kyle Shanahan’s in San Francisco.
Mayfield is 1-5 as a starter this season. He threw for 1,313 yards with six touchdowns and six interceptions with the Panthers this season.
