Draft success is key to long term team success. Every team has their misses but missing year after year can be detrimental to a team. The Packers are a team that always seem to draft very well. They always seem to find value no matter what round they are picking in. 2022 seems no different. The Packers 2022 draft class looks elite so far.
Early Rounds
The Packers had two first round picks thanks to the Davante Adams trade. They turned their first one into Quay Walker who looks like the making of an elite linebacker already. His speed and tackling make me excited to have him next to De’Vondre Campbell. Devonte Wyatt has had a slower start but the Packers drafted him to develop him. Kenny Clark, Dean Lowry and others can take the starting roles for now. Christian Watson is the big wild card. We haven’t seen him in the preseason because of a knee injury. He looks to have the physical tools to be dynamic but we haven’t seen him on the field to make a judgement.
Middle Rounds
The Packers may have gotten 3 steals in the middle rounds. My love for Romeo Doubs is well documented and the highlight plays show my love is warranted. The Packers could have found the next great receiver in the fourth round. Also in the fourth round was Zach Tom who was the top rated pass blocking rookie according to PFF. This looks like another example the Packers finding a starting offensive lineman for a long time. In the fifth round the Packers took Kingsley Enagbare who has the makings to a great edge rusher. He embarrassed a Saints lineman in a preseason game and has shown bursts of greatness. The Packers middle round picks look to have the makings of elite talent.
Late Rounds
Most of the time seventh round picks have a tough time making the 53 man roster. All three of the Packers picks made it. Tariq Carpenter is probably the most logical as the Packers are shallow at the safety position. Jonathan Ford was a surprise but the raw talent and size is there. As a nose tackle he can also learn behind Kenny Clark and TJ Slaton. The biggest surprise was wide receiver Samori Toure. He beat out fourth year wide receiver Juwann Winfree for a starting spot. GM Brian Gutekunst priased Toure saying he looked better in the slot and could get open. If all three of these can become rotational players, the Packers 2022 rookie class will be an elite one.
A lot of these players will have an impact on the 2022 season. The Packers are calling on their elite draft class to help them reach a Super Bowl.
