The last year was a tumultuous one for the Oregon Ducks. The Ducks come off of an up and down 10-4 2021 campaign that included a win in Columbus over Ohio State and humiliating blowout losses to Oklahoma and Utah. Head Coach Mario Cristobal decided to depart after Oregon’s second loss to Utah in the Pac-12 title.
The Ducks hired Georgia Defensive Coordinator Dan Lanning shortly after Cristobal’s departure, who came into Eugene off of a national title win. Although Lanning has never been a head coach in his coaching career, his ability to recruit has always been evident.
Lanning has proven he can flat out recruit before even taking the field as the head coach for the Ducks. Facing the impending departure of USC and UCLA from the Pac-12 and potential collapse of the conference, Lanning has secured an elite 2023 recruiting class. The class starts with five star and number 2 overall prospect in the class of 2023 Quarterback Dante Moore.
Along with Moore is five star wide receiver Jurrion Dickey. The class contains 6 other 4 star commits and is currently the 11th ranked class in the country. It is worth noting that there is still a lot of time before early signing day and signing day next February. Lanning’s early elite recruiting has to be encouraging for Duck fans, who are still hoping for the program to win their first national title.
With one of the most talented rosters in college football moving forward, Lanning will lean on his championship DNA at Georgia to guide Oregon towards its lofty goals. Securing the highest ranked quarterback commit in school history is certainly a good start.
