After a 96-year run within the Big 12 (previously known as the Big 8, Big 7, and Big 6), the Oklahoma football program will head to the SEC for the 2024 season and beyond. Led by head coach Brent Venables, the Sooners will embark on a new journey in a hyper-competitive conference a year after winning double-digit games and finishing 12th in the final College Football Playoff standings. However, FanDuel Sportsbook isn’t bullish on Oklahoma in the SEC next season, setting their win total at a lowly 6.5 on Friday.
#Sooners win total set at 6.5 for their first season in the SEC by @FanDuel…
I mean OU has arguably the toughest schedule in the country next season but I’m still smashing the over.
Not hiding either. @OldTakesExposed https://t.co/gMSavrcDBl

Oklahoma Football: Joining SEC Next Season
The Sooners have had their total set at 6.5 for next season by FanDuel Sportsbook, placing them on the fringe of bowl eligibility. Only the Arkansas Razorbacks (5.5), South Carolina Gamecocks (5.5), and Vanderbilt Commodores (2.5) have lower win totals per FanDuel. Meanwhile, the Georgia Bulldogs lead the way with a win total set at 10.5.
The Texas Longhorns will also join the SEC next season, but FanDuel has not released their win total. If the Sooners fall short of their 6.5 win total, they would be in danger of missing out on the postseason. The Oklahoma football program last missed a bowl game in 1998, their final with John Blake at the helm. The Sooners narrowly made the postseason in 2021, their first under current head coach Brent Venables. They finished the regular season 6-6, earning an invite to the Cheez-It Bowl, where they lost 35-32.
Sooners: Eyeing Tough Schedule in 2024
Oklahoma football will have one of the most demanding schedules next fall. They open the season with back-to-back games against the lowly Temple Owls and Houston Cougars before hosting the Tulane Green Wave, who won 11 games last season. They will then start their SEC schedule, opening with a home matchup against the Tennessee Volunteers before heading to Auburn to battle the Tigers. Oklahoma will also travel to LSU, Missouri, and Ole Miss while still playing Texas in the Red River Rivalry.
The Sooners lost quarterback Dillon Gabriel to the transfer portal after a 30-touchdown campaign. Oklahoma will turn to former five-star mega prospect Jackson Arnold. The soon-to-be true sophomore threw for 563 yards and four touchdowns against three picks while completing 64% of his passes.
