tAfter a narrow defeat to #2 Ohio St in week 1, Notre Dame showed much promise for the season to come. The defense seemed stout and the offense needed a kick start, but things haven’t gone according to plan.
Marshall Recap:

Coming into the game, Notre Dame was a 21-point favorite over Marshall. That said, they certainly didn’t play like they were. Notre Dame’s offense continued to remain stagnant while the defense puts on a valiant effort picking up the slack.
Despite a poor performance, Notre Dame had a chance to close out the game vs Marshall. However, a late 4th quarter interception thrown by QB Tyler Buchner all, but sealed their defeat.

In lieu of their humiliating loss, ND lost starting QB Buchner, likely, for the year. This drive came on the heels of Buchner throwing a pick-six. Attempting to make a play with his legs, Buchner is dragged down and crunched by a defender.
It should go without saying, but typically when an arm goes limp like Tyler Buchner’s did after this weight-bearing hit the recovery timeline is substantial.

What’s next and is there any hope?
Yes, there’s a glimmer of hope for the Fighting Irish, however, the rest of the season will be a bumpy ride. Drew Pyne, recently named QB1, will be under center and he looked decent in relief for Buchner despite, also, throwing a late INT. He does have assistance from one of the best Tight Ends in the league in Michael Mayer.

Notre Dame has talented RBs in Chris Tyree and Audric Estime, that Tommy Rees (OC) can use as a 1-2 punch. Lastly, they have budding WR Lorenzo Styles that can help breakout games.
We can’t say for certain any longer that any game ND plays is a certain victory and we must take this one step at a time. Next up, the Fighting Irish take on the California Golden Bears in South Bend. Currently, Notre Dame is an 11-point favorite in this matchup. Notre Dame has BYU in a few weeks & must get back on track to keep bowl game hopes alive and rest of season aspirations.
