Even Nick Saban knows the College Football Playoff committee did Florida State dirty. The Alabama head coach gave his opinion Sunday on the undefeated ACC Champion being left out of the playoffs this year.
The committee made the controversial move to keep the Seminoles out of the playoffs. The Seminoles were ranked fourth heading into Championship Weekend. But Texas and Alabama leaped over the Seminoles Sunday.
Fans took to social media to vent about the committee’s choice to devalue an undefeated season in favor of putting Alabama back in what really should be described as the SEC Invitational. Booger McFarland called the committee’s decision a “travesty” to the sport.Nick Saban sounds off on FSU being snubbed
“This is just one of those years where — and there have been other years like this — where somebody that may have been deserving got left out,” Saban said on Sunday. “Florida State, certainly, going undefeated did everything they could to get into the playoffs. Unfortunately, probably because of the injury to their quarterback, are not going to have that opportunity.”
Of course, the Seminoles didn’t do “everything” they could to get in the playoffs. Instead of joining the SEC’s cartel in realignment, they went undefeated against SEC opponents this season (Florida and LSU).
Saban clearly knows the Seminoles are deserving. But he didn’t suggest what the committee should have done instead. Because putting the Seminoles in would mean Alabama would have been left out.
College football isn’t ready to leave the SEC out in favor of fairness.
