Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith was one of the surprises from last year. He led one of the most efficient offenses in the league and has the Seahawks thinking big things in 2023. One key offseason move was bringing back franchise legend Bobby Wagner. Smith made it clear that he was very happy Wagner was back on his side.
Seattle Seahawks Geno Smith On Bobby Wagner
Smith credits Wagner for him getting better this offseason.
“Anytime you get a chance to go head-to-head and compete against a guy like that every day, it makes you a better quarterback. I’ve appreciated it, in those two games we played against them he made it tough on us and made a ton of great plays. So just happy to have him back on our side.”
“His consistency, you look at a guy who’s got all the accolades you can name at the linebacker position. He has been overall just consistent, the way that he works every day. I think if you’re looking for a template of what it looks like to be consistent and to be a great leader on a daily basis, then a young guy can look directly at him and kind of follow what he’s done and what he is doing.”
While Wagner might be the player he was ten years ago, he now has the experience to still cause problems for opposing quarterbacks.
Can The Seahawks Take The West?
San Francisco has one of the most talented rosters in the league. However, their schedule is brutal. They have to travel a lot and play a lot of teams on short rest. There are also questions about whether Brock Purdy can lead this team for a full season and stay healthy. It isn’t completely implausible that even if the Seahawks do not end up going further than the 49ers in the playoffs they could take the division crown. Ultimately, it all depends on whether the season from Geno Smith was a one-hit wonder or a sign of things to come.
