Seahawks QB Geno Smith Reveals Major Change Ahead of New Season

Geno Smith almost single-handedly made the Russell Wilson transition for the Seattle Seahawks much more bearable last season. In fact, more than a few folks out there will argue that Smith had an even better campaign than Wilson in the latter’s debut season with the Denver Broncos.

The breakout year is over for Smith, though, and there are big expectations on his shoulders this coming season.

Smith is taking all this in stride. He knows that a lot is expected from him as Seattle’s unquestioned QB1 for 2023, and he’s making sure he’s doing everything he can to get himself ready for the brutal grind.

This includes making a major change in his own diet. Smith recently revealed that he’s decided to give up meat this summer as he looks to clean up his diet:

“I haven’t had chicken or beef in four or five months now,” Smith told Peter King of PFT. “I’ve been eating really healthy, really clean.”

That’s a big commitment, and it is clear that Smith is serious about preparing his body for the season ahead. Health will be a significant factor in Smith’s 2023 campaign, and so long as he’s able to stay on the field, the veteran could establish himself as a Top 10 quarterback in the league, and in the process, potentially lead the Seahawks to another postseason run.

Smith is also looking forward to making a few tweaks to his game following his resurgent run in 2022:

“I still feel like I don’t really do enough of the stuff on the move,” Smith said. “Being able to create off-schedule. And then being able to attack a little more in the red zone.”

Sounds like a plan to me.

Paolo has a knack for speaking his mind in his articles -- even when at times it gets him into trouble with the fans. Controversial? Maybe. Excellent writer? Definitely.
