Before Dalvin Cook agreed to a one-year, $8.6 million deal with the New York Jets to play alongside Aaron Rodgers, one of the teams that were in the race to sign him was the Miami Dolphins. Cook reportedly did not like what the Dolphins had on the table, though, which prompted a move to the Big Apple to feature in the Jets’ new-look offense.
Miami, however, seems intent on adding a running back before the start of the new season, and they are now being linked to one that has just been placed on the trade block.
Dolphins Could Join In on Race for Jonathan Taylor
The Indianapolis Colts sent shockwaves across the league on Monday after it was reported that they have given All-Pro RB Jonathan Taylor permission to seek a trade away from the team. Much like a handful of other star running backs in the NFL this summer, Taylor was also unable to negotiate an extension with the Colts, resulting in a holdout that saw the 24-year-old deciding not to show up for training camp.
Now that he’s on the trade block, the Dolphins are reportedly one of the teams that will explore the possibility of making a move on the high-profile RB:
“Per a league source, the Dolphins are expected to at least explore a trade for Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, who has been given permission to seek a trade. Not sure where this will lead, but it would make sense in that he’s only 24, 1st team All Pro & NFL rush leader in ’21,” Jackson wrote in his tweet.
According to reports, the Colts are demanding a first-round pick in exchange for Taylor, which means that the Dolphins will need to make a decision on whether or not they are willing to part ways with a future first-rounder in exchange for the Pro Bowl rnnung back. It also goes without saying that Miami is likely to have some stiff competition for JT.
On paper, it’s hard to deny that Taylor would be a significant upgrade for the Dolphins over the likes of Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising if Miami emerges as one of the favorites to come out of the AFC with a star of Jonathan Taylor’s caliber in the mix.
