The Indianapolis Colts have made it abundantly clear that they are unwilling to give Jonathan Taylor the money he is asking for. This has resulted in a prolonged holdout between the team and its star running back, which ultimately led to the Colts allowing Taylor to seek a trade away from the team. Nothing materialized, though, and the All-Pro RB is now expected to return to Indianapolis for 2023.
Dolhpins, Packers Willing to Offer Jonathan Taylor Record-Breaking Contract
Two teams that reportedly made offers to the Colts for Taylor were the Miami Dolphins and the Green Bay Packers. As it turns out, both teams were willing to do what Indianapolis was not, which was to give Taylor the bag. In fact, NFL insider Josina Anderson of CBS Sports reports that both the Dolphins and the Packers were actually willing to pay JT an insane amount of money:
“I’m told both the #Dolphins and #Packers were both willing to give RB Jonathan Taylor a contract that placed him among the highest-paid running backs in the NFL entering this season, per source,” Anderson wrote in her tweet.
Miami and Green Bay may have satisfied Taylor’s contract demands, but both teams failed to strike an agreement with the Colts. Indianapolis was reportedly asking for a first-round pick in exchange for the 24-year-old RB, but it seems that neither the Dolphins nor the Packers were willing to give this up. It appears that they were amenable to making Jonathan Taylor one of the highest-paid running backs in the entire league, but they simply weren’t willing to part ways with a first-round pick in order to lure him away from the Colts.
I’m pretty sure Taylor is also aware of the massive payday he missed out on in a botched move to either the Dolphins or the Packers. This will only make his situation in Indianapolis even worse, knowing that at least a couple of teams out there are aligned with how much value he sees in himself. Well, what you can say for sure is that the Indianapolis Colts are simply not in the same boat.
