According to reports, the Miami Dolphins were one of the teams that attempted to make a move on Jonathan Taylor the moment the Indianapolis Colts put him on the trade block. As it turns out, at least one more team also made an offer to Indianapolis for the services of the want-away All-Pro running back. This comes in the form of the Green Bay Packers.
NFL Rumors: Packers Held Talks With Colts for Jonathan Taylor
League insider Stephen Holder of ESPN reports that the Packers were serious about their attempt to trade for Taylor, except that for one reason or another, the deal just didn’t come to fruition:
“The Green Bay Packers also were in talks with the Colts and had legitimate interest in trading for the star running back, sources told ESPN,” Holder wrote.
Holder also confirmed previous reports that the Dolphins had indeed made several offers to the Colts as well. None of them were acceptable for Indianapolis, though, who are reportedly asking for a first-round pick in a potential trade deal.
While it remains unclear what the Packers had on the table, what can be safely assumed is that it fell below the Colts’ valuation of their star RB. This is what led to Indianapolis’ decision to remove Taylor from the trade block as of Tuesday’s NFL roster-cut deadline.
NFL Rumors: Jonathan Taylor Trade Still on the Table
Taylor is now set to miss at least the first four weeks of the new season after the Colts placed him on the reserve/physically unable to perform list. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that his long-term future still remains in Indianapolis.
Holder has also reported that opposing teams are still keeping a keen eye on Taylor’s situation with the Colts, with the 24-year-old also still open to moving on from Indianapolis:
“A source told ESPN that there is still trade interest in Taylor and the All-Pro would still welcome a trade. The NFL’s trade deadline is Oct. 31,” Holder wrote.
The Jonathan Taylor trade saga may have faced a major road bump, but a move away from Indianapolis in the near future still isn’t dead. In fact, it would not be surprising at all if the Colts end up moving the Pro Bowl running back before the October 31 trade deadline.
