In spite of their effort to save Jonathan Taylor from his unsavory situation with the Indianapolis Colts, the Miami Dolphins’ attempt to trade for the All-Pro running back ultimately fell short. Reports suggest that the Dolphins and the Colts were unable to find common ground.
Chris Grier Speaks Out on Failed Jonathan Taylor Trade
Dolphins general manager Chris Grier has now broken his silence on Miami’s botched attempt to recruit Jonathan Taylor. The high-ranking executive revealed that he did have “exploratory talks” with Colts general manager Chris Ballard. Grier did say, however, that there was “no exchange of offers” between them.
“In terms of being close, nothing was really close,” Grier said, via Stephen Holder of ESPN.
While the Dolphins may have failed in their initial attempt to lure Taylor away from Indianapolis, this deal isn’t necessarily dead. Holder also reports that there is still trade interest in the 24-year-old in the market, and that Taylor himself is still open to a move away from the Colts.
It would not be surprising if Miami still remains to be one of the teams that are still in the mix for JT. After all, it’s still very much possible that he gets dealt before the October 31 trade deadline.
For his part, however, Grier also made it clear that the Dolphins are happy with their current depth at the running back position. The Miami GM even heaped praise on the development of their RB group over the offseason, which right now, is comprised of Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., De’Von Achane, Salvon Ahmed, and Chris Brooks.
Be that as it may, you can be sure that the Dolphins will make room for Jonathan Taylor if a potential deal is back on the table.
