In the middle of the NFL playoffs, some drama off of the field has developed around the league. Believe it or not, this involves two people no longer in the NFL. Read below to find out what former Washington QB Robert Griffin III and head coach Jay Gruden are debating on social media.
Robert Griffin III vs. Jay Gruden
This all started with Robert Griffin III calling Jay Gruden out for being ignorant about what Gruden put him through in his NFL career. Gruden commented on Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts not receiving protection during his wild card game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This made Griffin respond and he claimed that Gruden did the same thing to him.
It led to a public argument that went back and forth. Gruden claimed that Griffin was not prepared for the NFL. Meanwhile, Griffin claimed that Gruden simply did not know how to coach a quarterback with his skill set. This all happened a few days ago but now, there is a new chapter to this saga.
Robert Griffin III Calls Out Jay Gruden Again
After all of the above happened, Robert Griffin III was prompted to bring this topic up on his podcast. He had some strong words for his former head coach. Griffin did this by discussing one particular moment of his NFL career.
At the end of one game when Griffin was still the Washington QB and Gruden was the head coach, Griffin claimed that Gruden wanted him to call out his teammates after a painful loss. Griffin then did this during a postgame press conference and received a lot of heat for it.
After that, Griffin claims that Gruden betrayed him and threw him under the bus to the media. It hurt Griffin that Gruden did not have his back and burned him with the media. Griffin claims he did burn him with his teammates as well. He summarized the subject with this quote:
“It’s the fact that he has zero self-awareness and zero integrity… because even though he asked me to do something… he didn’t have the balls to have my back.” -Robert Griffin III
Another Heated Social Media Exchange
When Robert Griffin III posted that segment of his podcast on social media, Jay Gruden was prompted to respond to the claims. He did so by saying:
“You really wanna play this game?” -Jay Gruden
Griffin responded to this quickly. He confronted this directly and offered Gruden an opportunity to clear this up once and for all:
“I’m not playing any games, I’m retired. You have a free invite to come on the show and discuss. Face to face. I know where all your bodies are buried Jay. Don’t play with me.”
-Robert Griffin III
