NFL Offensive Line Of The Week (W3)
My NFL Offensive Line Of The Week (Week 3) is the Jacksonville Jaguars. A group that has been slowly, but surely invested in over the last 5 years is finally starting to put it together. In 2021, they were a very solid group. Ranked amongst the top ten in pressures allowed to be exact. However, with the addition of All-Pro Guard Brandon Scherff & rookie center Luke Fortner, they’ve taken the step from solid to very very good. Going into Sunday, the Chargers defensive line was figured to have the clear advantage. All-Pro Khalil Mack, Pro-Bowler Joey Bosa, Kyle Van Noy, Sebastian Joseph Day & more headline the DL group. We’ll get into particulars in a second, but let’s just say this was a very one sided battle.
RUN GAME
In the run game, the Jaguars had about as good of a day as you can hope for in the NFL. James Robinson & Travis Etienne Jr lead the way for the Jaguars on the ground. Robinson went 17 carries, 100 yards & 1 touchdown. Etienne added 13 carries for 45 yards. Overall, the Jaguars totaled 151 yards on the ground for a 4.2 ypc average. The numbers don’t quite tell the story, though. The Jaguars MOVED the Chargers around up front. Most of the plays made from the Chargers front was in “garbage time” when they Jags were simply running out the clock. The double teams in the gap scheme plays were beautiful. The zone blocking was well executed and solid. Just an all around great day in the run blocking department.
PASS PRO
In pass protection, the Jaguars were incredible. On 39 drop backs, Quarterback Trevor Lawrence wasn’t sacked once. Sure there were a couple of hurries and plays where Lawrence had to make a play with his legs. As i mentioned before though, this is the NFL and the chargers arguably have the best book ends in two decades. There’s no such thing as a perfect game. I digress, the fact that they only gave up two recorded hurries against that front on 39 drop backs is simply remarkable. DE Joey Bosa went down with an unfortunate groin injury, but he was rendered ineffective prior. They’ve only given up two sacks in three full games this year. Safe to say this was no fluke. Cam Robinson, Ben Bartch, Luke Fortner, Brandon Scherff & Jawaan Taylor take a bow.
