NFL fans are all praying for Jake Haener after the breaking news that he has a rare cancer diagnosis this week.
As discussed on GH previously:
The Saints have a competitive battle for the backup quarterback position behind their veteran starter, Derek Carr. This offseason, the Saints signed former Chicago Bears quarterback Nathan Peterman. They drafted Spencer Rattler in the fifth round of April’s draft. Rattler had a strong spring, and there’s a chance he could move into the QB2 job at the completion of training camp.
However, it looks like Haener will sadly be out of the racing for that spot as he announced this week that he’s dealing with a rare form of skin cancer.
New Orleans Saints Quarterback Announced He Has Skin Cancer
The New Orleans Saints quarterback took to social media to announce that he has been diagnosed with a rare form of skin cancer and thankfully it is treatable. He will get the procedure done that is necessary, and will try to make a return to playing football after that:
“I actually have a rare form of skin cancer,” Haener said. “For my age it’s kind of rare that it pops up like that, so I’m trying to get that evaluated with our training staff. I have a consultation with doctors August 1 on our off day to figure out how long I can wait, because I have to get a different procedure done on my face, so we’re trying to take the necessary steps to see how long I can wait to have that procedure done.”
“It’s something that just popped up, I was worried about it, my family was worried about it, it was just this random odd bump that kept growing,” he said. “I went to a dermatologist, they removed it, they did a biopsy on it, and came back last week, right before camp, that it was a rare form of skin cancer for my age, like I said. . . . Hopefully when we get back to New Orleans, after the preseason, I’ll be able to get that procedure done.”
Former Bulldog QB Jake Haener says that he has been diagnosed with a rare form of skin cancer. It’s not considered life-threatening at this time, and he is working with doctors on a treatment plan in the upcoming weeks.
