The Georgia Bulldogs started quarterback Gunner Stockton in its playoff game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish after Carson Beck suffered an injury in the SEC Championship Game. Stockton played okay in the playoff game for Georgia, but they lost to Notre Dame because they lost on the line of scrimmage.

Stockton will be the starting quarterback for the Bulldogs entering the 2025 college football season. He will be entering his junior season. It is going to be interesting to see how this offense operates under him. For now, Stockton is going to be the starting quarterback, but a lot can change during the 2025 college football season as well.

College Football Analyst Believes Gunnar Stockton Can Be Georgia Bulldogs Quarterback For Next Two Seasons Depending On 2025 Performance

Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton (14) hands off the ball to Georgia running back Nate Frazier (3) during warm ups before the start of the Georgia G-Day spring football game in Athens, Ga., on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

Adam Rittenburg of espn.com broke down all of the power four college football teams entering the 2025 college football season. One of the things he discussed was about whether or not Stockton will be Georgia’s starting quarterback for the next two years. Rittenburg said,

“A lot depends on this fall. Georgia opted not to add a proven transfer following Beck’s departure, and will go with Stockton, the No. 110 overall recruit in 2022, who has waited his turn. If he pans out, he could play through 2026. Georgia also has redshirt freshman Ryan Puglisi and other younger quarterbacks, but could go transfer hunting.”

Stockton completed 70.3% of his passes for 440 yards, one touchdown, and one interception during the 2024 college football season. He will have a lot of talented players around him to work with. If Stockton struggles at any point during the 2025 college football season, then head coach Kirby Smart may have to make some tough decisions about the quarterback position.

Georgia is a team who will have national championship expectations, and this is a team who will look to contend with the Texas Longhorns in the SEC. The Bulldogs will no doubt be a Top 5 team in the nation entering the 2025 college football season. A lot of their playoff and championship hopes will rely upon on how well Stockton plays this upcoming season.
