The New Orleans Saints made a huge swing to sign Chase Young to join there already elite defensive line. Less than 24 hours after the team signed him, it was reported that he will need neck surgery which could keep him out for the entire training camp. There is optimism that he will ready fort eh regular season though.
Adam Schefter Reports On Chase Young Surgery
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Chase Young will be sidelined for the entirety of training camp for the New Orleans Saints. He will however, be available for the beginning of the season if everything goes well.
“The expectation is that he will return in time for the season,” Schefter said. “Teams were aware of his neck issue, and the Saints were comfortable moving ahead with it.”
The neck injury occurred way back in the preseason opener for the Washington Commanders this past year. It did not stop him from playing almost every game this past season, and playing every game in the post season as well for the San Francisco 49ers.
Can The New Orleans Saints Compete In 2024
The NFC South has not been all that great in the past decade, and the Saints were used to dominating that division year in and year out. While we saw the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Atlanta Falcons make huge moves in the off season, it will be very difficult for this Saints team to sniff the post season.
The Saints will need a great season from their defense if they want to compete in 2024, and at the moment they are not close to favored to win the division or make the post season. It is very hard to lose a legendary quarterback and the Saints are clearly going through it to find their next franchise guy and get back to winning.
