The New England Patriots are in full rebuild mode this off season, as they are now under new leadership in Jerod Mayo. Now it is being reported that the team will look to sign the most decorated offensive tackle who’s set to hit free agency this off-season. Dallas Cowboys star Tyron Smith is almost set to explore a new team and the Patriots seem to be all in in bringing him in.

Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Still Thinks A Deal Is Possible

Tyron Smith has been one of, if not the best tackle since entering the NFL in 2011 and it appears that his time in Dallas is coming to an end this off season. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is still optimistic in trying to get a deal done, but it is now a long shot that Smith Stays with the team. Jones was quoted saying:

“We’ll get in there in the right way and discuss his business and work out something that’s good for both of us,” Jones said. “He’s had a great career. He’s a Hall of Fame player. And not only that, his personal life is one of the great stories that I’ve been a part of with players, or coaches or anybody, commissioners or anybody in the NFL.

If Smith does not get a deal done with the Cowboys there should be many teams that will be in the running to sign the tackle in free agency.

The Patriots did not have great play at the tackle position this past season, and if Smith becomes available in free agency the team is set to be all in on bringing him in. Although Smith has some injury concern, he would certainly be more dependable that what the team had in the 2023 season.

Both Trent Brown and Michael Onwenu, the two tackles for the team, are set to hit free agency this March as well. The Patriots will have many moves to make and will be looking like a very different team after free agency and the draft. It appears the team made a contract offer to one of their players today and they will have many more moves to make the rest of the off-season.
