It’s that time of year again for football fans, award voters, and analysts. It’s time to narrow down who wins the NFL MVP. The MVP award goes to the most valuable player in the NFL. The award is usually given in February during the build-up to the Superbowl. Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts headline this year’s MVP candidates. Mahomes and Hurts have played well this season and deserve to be in the running. I will make a case for each quarterback in this article and you the fanatic can decide who should win the MVP award.

Patrick Mahomes is having one of his best seasons as a professional quarterback. Mahomes has passed for 4,496 yards, thrown 35 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Mahomes leads the NFL in passing yards and passing touchdowns. Mahomes is playing well and leading an electric Chiefs offense. He is putting up great numbers without Tyreek Hill. Who would have thought Mahomes could do that? Mahomes is showing he can win without pro-bowl-type receivers and feeding the Chief’s skill players. Mahomes has helped the Chiefs win the AFC West and hold the second seed in the AFC playoffs.

Patrick Mahomes won the NFL MVP award in 2018 which was his first season as a starter. Mahomes passed for over 5,000 yards and threw 50 touchdowns. Mahomes continues to improve and show why he is worthy of winning the 2022 MVP Award.

    Jalen Hurts

Jalen Hurts has had an incredible season with the Eagles. Hurts has led the Eagles to a 13-1 record which is the best in the NFL. Hurts has passed for 3,472 yards, thrown 22 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. Hurts has grown into the leader the Eagles needed. Hurts mechanics, decision-making, and accuracy have improved this season. Hurts is getting the ball to the Eagle’s skill players and not putting the ball in harm’s way.

The Eagles are a proud franchise that expects to win. Eagles’ General manager Howie Roseman traded for A.J Brown, drafted Devonta Smith, and has built the best offensive line in the NFL. These moves have paid off and Hurts has taken advantage of Roseman’s support. Jalen Hurts definitely deserves a shot at the MVP award.

    Former NFL MVP Winners

Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers won the award in 2020 and 2021.  Rodgers passed for 8,414 yards combined in 2020 and 2021. Rodgers also threw 85 touchdown passes in that span. Baltimore Ravens Quarterback Lamar Jackson won the award in 2019. Jackson passed for 3, 127 yards, threw 36 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions.
