JJ Watt was one of the most dominant defensive players of our generation. He retired recently and is now working on finding his life after football. After he saw the Nick Bosa extension, Watt took to social media to share his thoughts.
Just getting a chance to sit down and look at the breakdown of Bosa’s new (very well-deserved) contract.
I have a little more digging to do, but I’m starting to feel comfortable saying that I would consider un-retiring if offered a similar contract.
Maybe.

JJ Watt Reacts To The Nick Bosa Extension
Watt took to social media and joked that he would un-retire if he was offered a similar contract. Bosa’s contract is massive at $170 million with $122.5 million guaranteed. It makes him the highest-paid defensive player and starts to rival some quarterback contracts. For context, Watt had $129.7 million in total earnings in his time with the Texans and Cardinals. That was over a 12-year period whereas Bosa is getting almost that guaranteed. Watt is known to joke around with news in the league and this time is no different.
Can Bosa Live Up To The Contract?
Now that he has gotten paid, can he live up to the contract? Bosa has 34 sacks in the past two seasons after having nine as a rookie in 2019. The fact that he missed all of 2020 with an injury and still has this many sacks for his career is mind-boggling. He shows no signs of slowing down and should have ample opportunity to rack up more sacks with the strength of the defensive line in San Francisco. Ultimately, we the fans win because we get to see Nick Bosa back on the field this season. He is truly a fun player to watch.
JJ Watt was so much fun to watch on the field and Bosa is just the next in line of dominant defensive players in the league. With others, like Micah Parsons, due for a big contract, it will be interesting to see whether we see this number continue to go up.
