It’s a big year ahead for four-time Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook. The 28-year-old will be playing with a chip on his shoulder in his first season with the New York Jets after Cook was released by the Minnesota Vikings earlier this summer. At this point, it is clear that Cook is raring to go.

Aaron Rodgers will obviously be the center of attention out in New York, but there’s also going to be a spotlight shone on Cook. It remains unclear, however, if head coach Robert Saleh intends to use Cook in their Week 1 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.

For his part, Cook is adamant that he’s currently in excellent shape. If it were up to him, the former Miami Central standout would definitely love to be out there for his new team’s season-opener:

“You never know until you go out there and do it,” he said, via Rich Cimini of ESPN. “I think once you’re out there, everything goes out the window. It’s kind of like, ‘Let’s play ball.’ The conditioning part is going to take care of itself. Other than that, I’ve been working my tail off. I’m ready to go play.”

Cook signed with the Jets for a reason. He had a successful spell in Minnesota, but he never got the chance to compete for a Super Bowl. This is exactly what he wants to do with the Jets alongside Aaron Rodgers and Co.:

“I feel like we’ve got one of the best [defenses] in the league,” he said. “I feel like when you have a great defense, you get the opportunities on offense to do something special. You look around at the guys we have here. I feel like we’ll be able to do something, something special.”

Talking about special players, the Jets have just that in Breece Hall. After a strong start to the campaign, the Jets’ second-round pick suffered a season-ending ACL injury in Week 7, which derailed what could have been a truly special debut season. Nevertheless, Hall was still named as the Jets’ Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Dalvin Cook knows exactly what kind of player the Jets have in Breece Hall:

“The talent that Breece has — the young talent he has — we’re going to be something special together,” Cook said.

Cook himself does not have a clear idea of how the Jets will utilize him alongside Hall. All the veteran knows is that he’s going to do everything he can to help the Jets succeed this season:

“I don’t know. I’m kind of excited to see,” Cook said. “I’ve got a great skill set. I come with a unique skill set. I can catch the ball out of the backfield, and I can be explosive in any position on the offense. I’m just looking forward to how they use me.”
