Indianapolis Colts GM Chris Ballard is caught in the middle of the Jonathan Taylor situation. While owner Jim Irsay has been the catalyst of the Taylor drama, Ballard is the one who has to pick up the pieces. In a recent interview, Ballard talked about how he views the situation.
Indianapolis Colts GM Talks Jonathan Taylor
Ballard was very blunt in his response. “It sucks for the Colts, it sucks for Jonathan Taylor, and it sucks for our fans,” Ballard said. The last statement is the one that is most notable. Fans are the ones who pay big money to see the best players on the field. Taylor is clearly the best player on the team right now. While Anthony Richardson will hopefully become the franchise quarterback, there are many questions right now. What struck me personally about this statement was how much of a difference it is from Irsay’s. He was compassionate about the fans and Taylor which cannot be said about the owner.
Ballard Still Believes In Repairing Relationship
Ballard remains optimistic that a resolution can still be had.
“It’s where we’re at, and we’re got to work through it, and we’re going to do everything we can to work through it. Relationships are repairable. They’re repairable. When guys get emotional and take a stance, you’ve got to be able to work through those.
“We’ve got work to do. We got work to do on the relationship. We got work to do to find a solution to the problem and what we’re gonna do.”
If Taylor and the Colts can come to a compromise, it will be one of the greatest relationship repairs of all time. While this seems unlikely, I applaud Ballard’s attempt to make the situation better.
The Indianapolis Colts really needed Jonathan Taylor this season. However, they do have lots of promising young pieces and need to move forward.
