Kansas City Chiefs star defensive tackle Chris Jones is just one of many NFL players who have had contract disputes with their respective teams this summer. Much like his other compatriots, Jones has also refused to report to training camp as he looks to secure a big-money extension with the Chiefs.
Chris Jones Says He Will Rejoin Chiefs in ‘Week 8’
Amid his absence from training camp, Jones has been quite active on social media. The four-time Pro Bowler was called out for the same by a random fan on Twitter as Jones was questioned for his decision not to join his team. The 29-year-old clapped back on the criticism with a savage two-word response:
Week 8

Based on this tweet, it appears that Jones won’t be joining the Chiefs anytime soon. We’re not entirely sure how serious he is with this statement, but what you can say for sure is that he didn’t even acknowledge the criticism that was thrown in his direction. Well, at least he took the time to respond to the fan, right?
Jones wasn’t done either. Another account responded to his “Week 8” statement by pointing out that the All-Pro DT is going to be facing a hefty fine if he does decide to hold out for this long. Once again, Jones chose violence in his response:
I can afford it

There’s no denying that Chris Jones is dead serious about getting his money. He is adamant that he deserves that new contract from Kansas City, and it seems that he’s willing to take extreme measures toward this objective.
According to reports, Jones, who is now entering the fourth and final year of his $80 million contract with the Chiefs, isn’t pleased with what the team has on the table. KC reportedly offered him a new deal worth around $25 million per year. However, Jones believes he’s worth $30 million per season.
Jones is reportedly being fined $50,000 for each day of training camp that he misses. Given that the fines started coming in on July 21, the Chiefs star has now accumulated fines of well over a million dollars. He was also slapped with a CBA-mandated $98,753 penalty for skipping the team’s three-day mini-camp in June, while also missing out on a $500,000 bonus for being absent from the voluntary offseason program.
As Chris Jones said, however, he can afford it.
