The NFL has had a crazy stretch of coaching movement and the Atlanta Falcons went with new head coach Raheem Morris over Bill Belichick for the 2024 season. It was reported earlier in the week by Boomer Esiason that Bill Belichick did indeed receive an offer from the team but turned it down. Now Falcons owner Arthur Blank commented on that report saying that Boomer is saying nonsense. Blank would surely know exactly how it all went down.
NFL Owner Arthur Blank Reveals The Truth
On Friday, Blank completely denied the report that they ever offered Bill a job and that the plan was always to go with Morris for the job. He had no idea where Esiason got this idea from saying:
“Where Boomer (Esiason) heard that from, I have no idea,” Blank said.
There did seem to be some confusion however as rookie running back star Bijan Robinson was quoted in the media on Friday saying that he thought Belichick would be the head coach for 2024. He said:
“That’s who I was expecting we were gonna hire,” Robinson told Fox Sports 1. “I thought it was gonna be Belichick. Obviously, he’s the greatest coach of all time.”
Now we know the Falcons coach will not be Belichick and according to their owner he was not offered a job from the team.
What is in Store For Bill Belichick This Year
Now that Belichick will not be coaching football for the first time in many decades, what will the elite coach do with all his time? It was reported earlier in the week that Belichick will be around the Washington Football program as his son got the defensive coordinator position with the University. He will probably be joined by fellow legendary coach Pete Carroll as his son got the offensive coordinator position.
So now that Belichick is not in the NFL he will be around his son and probably be watching NFL football as he plans to get back to the league next season. Either way, the fact that he was not offered a job from the seven head coaching openings is quite shocking. Perhaps the league thinks that the success in New England was all Tom Brady.
