The NFL all time coaching list is becoming more of an argument. Just a few years ago, Bill Belichick was almost unanimously thought as the best coach ever in the NFL, but now after Andy Reid just won back to back championships, many fans want to open up that conversation again about who is the greatest coach of all time. This week, coach Reid was asked by former receiver James Jones where he would rank Belichick on his all time list of coaches.
NFL Legend Andy Reid Reveals Where Bill Belichick Ranks
Andy and Bill are long time rivals, and have faced each other in the playoffs many times as well as the Super Bowl back when Reid was coaching for the Philadelphia Eagles. Bill almost always got the better of Reid and was undefeated against the legendary coach in the playoffs. Andy Reid knows the history very well and had nothing but praise for Belichick. He revealed that he think Bill is the greatest in his mind.
“I’m a big fan of Bill Belichick’s,” Reid said.
“I’d put him right at the top, for our era. I think you have to break it down into eras as you go. Who’s going to say Don Shula wasn’t great? These are people who have raised the bar during their era and set records.”
Reid is as gracious and professional as ever as he’s coming off back to back Super Bowl titles. It is clear that Reid respects Bill.
Andy Reid Can Go Down As The Greatest Coach Ever
Coach Reid has been climbing all the charts for wins and post season success, and he is getting close to Belichick. While Bill is out of a job this season, Reid will be looking to win a third straight Super Bowl. Reid has also proven that he can create amazing teams without his exceptional quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Reid was very good in Philly and brought the team to the Super Bowl with Donovan McNabb to fall short to Belichick 24-21. Then in Kansas City, Reid was constantly in the playoffs with Alex Smith as well. He needed Mahomes to make it to the promise land, but with Mahomes he looks unstoppable. Bill, on the other hand, has looked like a bad coach with a losing record without his legend Tom Brady.
This is not the mots important aspect of what makes a great coach, but if Reid keeps winning with Mahomes it is likely that he will eventually be thought of as the greatest of this era. You can’t help but root for Andy as he has had many struggles in his life and continues to be a man full of smiles. With Bill sitting out for this upcoming season, Reid will continue to close the gap in wins and post season wins.
