The New York Jets had a disappointing 2023-24 season to say the least. It started with QB Aaron Rodgers getting injured just four snaps into the season. As a result, it forced Zach Wilson to step up in his absence.
Now, it appears that dynamic has run its course, and a quarterback will attempt to get traded. Who is it and is it realistic? Find out below.
Zach Wilson Granted Permission to Seek Trade
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Jets GM Joe Douglas has permitted Wilson to seek a trade. This comes after Wilson was benched in the middle of the season and forced back into the lineup after other options did not pan out. Now, it appears Wilson will try to seek a fresh start in his NFL career.
Zach Wilson’s Remaining Contract Terms
The one case to be made trading for Wilson is that his contract is very affordable. Despite having an expensive fifth year option, this is easy to avoid. If a team were to trade for Wilson, his base salary would be just over $1 million in 2024.
Can the New York Jets Get Anything for Wilson?
Some people may question if a team will even trade for Wilson. The biggest argument to do so would be that a team would be getting a cheap quarterback to add to their roster. However, Wilson’s 2023 numbers leave something to be desired.
For one thing, he had just a 4-7 record as a starter last season. Wilson had just eight touchdown passes and seven interceptions in 12 games. Any team that tries to acquire Wilson would hope that he improves upon these numbers.
