The New York Jets learned the hard way last season that external distractions do not create the most positive working environment. From star quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ comments about Jimmy Kimmel to internal leaks of discontent with the coaching staff, New York had more than its fair share of self-created drama.

What should have been an exciting 2023 season after acquiring Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers was, instead, a complete disaster. The four-time NFL MVP tore his Achilles just four snaps into the season. Free agent signings meant to appease him, Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb, failed to be productive players without him.
The negativity within the Jets’ own confines was so palpable, Zach Wilson did not want to start towards the end of the season and is, essentially, on his way out of New York.
The New York Jets Want a Drama-Free Offseason
During an interview at the NFL head coaches meetings a couple of weeks ago, Jets head coach called last season “a little loud” in terms of the distractions that centered around the team. He also said,
“Distractions will be eliminated with winning. When we win football games, the distractions will go away.”
The problem is that the regular season is still months away and the Jets haven’t won much of anything lately. In fact, most of the news surrounding them this offseason has been relatively negative:
- Woody Johnson and Robert Saleh’s heated argument at the NFL coaches meetings
- Aaron Rodgers’ alleged comments on the Sandy Hook mass shooting
- Aaron Rodgers’ aforementioned comments about Jimmy Kimmel
- The Zach Wilson saga
And the above storylines are just the tip of the proverbial iceberg!
New York Jets Owner Woody Johnson Makes a Stir on Social Media with Latest Donald Trump Comments
One of the biggest dividers in the United States of America today is politics. As many are well aware, Rodgers was at one point one of Robert Kennedy Jr.’s top picks for a potential running mate when he runs for President in November.
Woody Johnson, the owner of the Jets, is a well-known supporter of Donald Trump, the former President who is currently facing over 90 felony charges related to alleged crimes committed during and after his term.
On Monday night, Johnson made an appearance on the conservative news channel Fox News and had this to say about the former President:
Woody Johnson: Trump is extremely compassionate. People don’t know that. He’s extremely funny. People are starting to appreciate his sense of humor pic.twitter.com/cA0Xb2zX43

“He’s extremely compassionate. I don’t think a lot of people know that. And he’s extremely funny, I think people are starting to appreciate his sense of humor.”
While that may be true for some people, it was not true for many who reacted and/or responded to his comments.
NFL Fans Roast New York Jets Owner Woody Johnson Over Donald Trump Comments
“He bragged about sexual assault. He led a deadly insurrection to overthrow the govt. He’s mocked war heroes and wounded soldiers. He praises dictators. He’s facing 92 felony counts. Like, what are we doing here? Why are we tolerating and entertaining this absurd bull—-t?!” wrote one X (formerly Twitter) user.
Joe Walsh, of America’s Most Wanted fame, wrote “Trump is NOT compassionate. Not at all.”
One writer for the Washington Post wrote, “You’ll never win with this dude as your owner, Gang Green. You’ll never even come close. Enjoy those couple years with Rex before it all fell apart.”
Of course, Johnson is well within his rights to voice his opinion. However, after he and the Jets voiced their desire for a quieter offseason, going on Fox and saying what he did may not have been a good way to go about achieving that peace.
