New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is one of the most popular players in the NFL. A four-time NFL MVP, Rodgers spent 18 years with one of the league’s oldest and most storied teams, the Green Bay Packers. While there, Rodgers established himself as one of the all-time great quarterbacks, but also as one of the league’s more complex individuals.
Conflicting reports over what kind of teammate he is leave many wondering if he is liked or disliked in the locker room. On the one hand, several former Packers teammates said that Rodgers did not communicate well with other players, particularly rookies. On the other hand, several other teammates said those reports were false.
New York Jets Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Stirs the Pot
One of the things that has made Rodgers so popular among NFL fans of all fanbases is his weekly appearance during the season on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show. During these weekly interviews, Rodgers has been able to give insight into the game, explain concepts, and show off his immense football IQ. However, these appearances have also gotten him, and the show, into hot water.
Most recently, Rodgers made comments on the show about how he would pop a celebratory bottle of something if or when comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s name was found to be on the Epstein List.
These comments, unwarranted and made out of spite for a person he has not gotten along with for many years, did not go over well at ESPN, on social media, or anywhere. Rodgers later said it was never his intention to accuse Kimmel of anything, and he gaslit anyone who took his comments that way, absolving himself of any wrongdoing.
Not long after, it was announced that Aaron Rodgers Tuesdays on The Pat McAfee Show were done for the season. While McAfee has stated he wants Rodgers back next season, it remains to be seen if the network will even allow that to happen.
Pat McAfee Lost Sleep Over the Aaron Rodgers-Jimmy Kimmel Situation
During a recent podcast appearance on Showtime‘s “All That Smoke,” McAfee revealed that he lost sleep because the situation Rodgers created with Kimmel was so stressful:
“The block got real how there for about three weeks. There was a lot of times where I’m like, ‘Do I deserve to have this platform if I don’t know everything about everything?’ So this s–t can’t happen and people don’t end up hating us. … Because there was nights I couldn’t sleep. Like I’m like, ‘maybe I am f–king this up completely.’”
He went onto say that he actually sought out advice from NFL Hall of Famer and broadcasting star Shannon Sharpe. In the end, McAfee concluded that he likes his brand of media and, for better or worse, will not change the way he does things.
It still is yet to be seen if ESPN will let Rodgers back on.
