The New York Jets, who finished their 2023 campaign with a 7-10 record suffered major injuries to key players throughout the season. None more important than future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who tore his Achilles in first game of the year and was not seen back on the field for the rest of the season.
Aaron Rodgers Heading Into 20th Season of Career with New York Jets
Rodgers was drafted 24th overall in 2005 and took snaps under center as a Green Bay Packer for 18 seasons before signing with New York last year. The Jets had plans to make a playoff run heading into the 2023 season, but those expectations were lowered once Rodgers suffered his season-ending injury in Week 1.
Rodgers, who will be heading into his 20th season has expressed that he wants to continue his career despite the devastating injury. Rodgers has thrown for 59,055 yards and 475 touchdowns in his career, which are both amongst the top 10 quarterbacks in NFL history. He is also a Super Bowl champion and one of six players in history to win the MVP trophy three times.
Rodgers Believes He Can Still Play for Multiple Seasons Despite Achilles Tear
When asked about his recovery process on the “Look Inti It Podcast with Eddie Bravo”, Rodgers revealed there is hope that he can still play at a high level for multiple seasons.
“I got back on the practice field late in the season and couldn’t get to a top speed sprinting, but really been in a good place rehab-wise… I’m hopeful I can play two or three or four more years, but you need to have some good fortune in there too.”
He was reported to possibly make a return late in the season if the Jets could get in the playoff race, but was ultimately kept out and continued to rehab. The 40-year-old veteran believes he can still play at a high level and New York could be a contender in the AFC for years to come if he can stay healthy.
