According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Philadelphia Eagles are trading All-Pro edge rusher Haason Reddick to the New York Jets for a conditional third-round draft pick.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Jets were interested in veteran edge-rusher Jadeveon Clowney. Once Clowney decided to join the Carolina Panthers, they focused in on a deal to acquire Reddick from the Eagles.
New York Jets edge rusher Haason Reddick grew into an elite pass rusher with the Philadelphia Eagles
Newly acquired New York Jets edge rusher Haason Redick, who was originally drafted by the Arizona Cardinals, grew into one of the game’s elite pass rushers with the Philadelphia Eagles. Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie spoke highly of Reddick in a recent press conference in an article from Yardbarker.
“He’s, by the way, a terrific player, great person, great background in Philadelphia,” Lurie said. “It’ll play itself out in a very good way.”
Reddick is tied for fifth in sacks over the past five seasons with elite Las Vegas Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby. Only T.J. Watt, Myles Garrett, Trey Hendrickson and Nick Bosa have more sacks than Reddick in the past five seasons.
He has outperformed elite pass rushers like Aaron Donald, Chirs Jones and Khalil Mack in that time. In the 2022 season, which was his first year with the Eagles, Reddick achieved a career-high 16 sacks on the season with a career-high five forced fumbles to go along with the sacks.
Reddick has been consistently healthy throughout his entire career, never playing less than 16 games in a season. Although it took him three seasons to get more than four sacks in a season, he has lived up to the expectations of the No. 13 overall pick he was in 2017.

New York Jets edge rusher Haason Reddick left the Philadelphia Eagles in a contract year
The New York Jets acquired Reddick in a contract year. The pick they sent will turn into a second-round pick if he plays in more than 67.5% of potential plays and records 10 or more sacks.
The Eagles never agreed to a deal with Reddick before sending him to the Jets, so he could potentially leave in free agency after the 2024 season. If Reddick does decide to leave in free agency, the Jets would receive a compensatory pick.
The last time Reddick didn’t have more than 10 sacks was in 2019, which was his third year in the league. If he continues to dominate on the edge like he has the last five years, he will be one of the most expensive pass rushers in the league.
Cincinnati Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson, who is one of the few edge-rushers that outperformed Reddick in terms of sacks in the last five years, has a contract that is four years and worth $60 million.
With a higher salary cap and a four-year difference, Reddick could easily ask for a bigger contract than what Hendrickson has now.
