The New York Jets’ season did not go according to plan.
The grand majority of the reason why concerns three words: Aaron Rodgers injury. Or in fact, more accurately, Aaron Rodgers season-ending injury 4 snaps into the first game of the season against division rivals, the Buffalo Bills.
Aaron Rodgers’ Injury Tanks New York Jets 2023 Season
Despite the fact that the Jets managed to miraculously come back and win that game, the season pretty much went downhill from there, save a statement win against the previously unbeaten Philadelphia Eagles in October.
One of the core grounds for their decline has been the inconsistent at best, and normally well below expected play of former 2nd overall pick, Zach Wilson, despite him being in his third season with the team.
Despite an injury ravaged offensive line and no true weapons outside of Garrett Wilson, with free agent acquisition Allen Lazard often being left as a healthy scratch, Wilson was not able to do anything with a Jets offense that has struggled mightily for the past decade +.
What Will Zach Wilson’s Future With The Jets Look Like?
Well, at the NFL Honors on Thursday night, where Lamar Jackson took home the Regular Season MVP for the second time, and Christian McCaffrey the Offensive Player Of The Year, Jets owner, Woody Johnson, gave a blunt statement about how last season went down, per Ari Meirov.

So, in summary, not looking good.
Zach Wilson Still An NFL Quarterback?
Well, things are never great when your starting QB goes down, but when the owner of your team is calling you, previously the 2nd overall pick, not even a backup caliber player, then there are some problems.
His accuracy was consistently mediocre, and despite showing glimpses as to why he was drafted so high, after impressing Taylor Swift by almost out-dueling Patrick Mahomes at Arrowhead, he could rarely put it all together in a string of matches and win games at MetLife Stadium.
Fortunately for the former BYU product, there does seem to be some interest in Wilson as a 2nd or 3rd option from teams in the NFL, however, it is now almost certain that he will not be on the Jets come the start of the 2024 season, and if the Jets can get any value out of him with a trade partner they will, especially as the receiving-Wilson team would not have to pay any of Wilson’s salary for the upcoming year.
Still, things are not looking great for the 24 year old, but there is some glimmer of hope for the talented QB. Where will he land next?
