The New York Jets are hoping to snap their five-game losing streak with a tough AFC matchup against the Houston Texans on Thursday night. Four-time NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers has never lost three consecutive home games in his career, but he faces that possibility against a hungry Texans defense.
For weeks, Rodgers and the Jets offense have been trying to get on the same page and play up to the level that they expected of themselves before the season began. An in-season trade for former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams was supposed to fix things; but it didn’t.
And now, the Jets are going to be without another one of Rodgers’ favorite targets for at least the next four weeks.
The New York Jets Place Wide Receiver Allen Lazard on Injured Reserve

Earlier today, news broke that Allen Lazard, who signed with the Jets before they traded for Rodgers in 2023, was being placed on injured reserve with a chest injury.

The good news for New York is that this is not considered a season-ending injury, so Lazard will be back. That being said, given the trajectory the team is on at the moment, there are serious doubts of how much it will matter when he does make it back.
So far this season, Lazard has 30 receptions for 412 yards and five touchdowns, which is a far better line than his 23 receptions for 311 yards and one touchdown last season when Rodgers was out with a torn Achilles.
One has to assume, too, that this injury may drastically affect the Jets’ apparent willingness to trade wide receiver Mike Williams, who has seen his role (which was not large to begin with) diminish since Adams was acquired.
It stands to reason that Williams will get significantly more looks in the passing game now that one of Rodgers’ favorite targets is out for a while.
