Aaron Rodgers hasn’t been performing well enough for the New York Jets to secure wins over the last five weeks. Specifically, he is having the worst season of his career by many metrics, and those who thought the Jets were playoff-bound let alone contenders, were dead wrong. He has yet to reach 300 passing yards in a game and is on track for a career-high in interceptions.
This entire season Rodgers had placed blame on everyone else besides himself, and now he finally accepted a tiny bit of criticism on his own play.

Typically, Rodgers avoids criticizing his own play, but he acknowledged that one part of his game could improve. Speaking with reporters before the Jets’ Thursday Night Football matchup with the Houston Texans, Rodgers responded to remarks from New England Patriots defensive end Davon Godchaux, who noted that Rodgers seemed to be struggling to move during Sunday’s loss. Rodgers agreed, saying Godchaux was “probably right,” adding that he had been feeling sore but is better now.
“He’s probably right, yeah. I was hurting, but I feel better today,” Rodgers told reporters on Tuesday.
Rodgers has completed 61.6% of his passes, accumulating 1,896 yards, 12 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in the first half of the NFL season. While these stats are a step up for the Jets, it hasn’t been enough to secure wins against several teams they were expected to beat.
The Jets have tried nearly everything to ignite their season, from dismissing former head coach Robert Saleh to bringing in Rodgers’ longtime friend and All-Pro receiver Davante Adams. With all of that movement, nothing has remotely worked to get wins. Rodgers is clearly the issue with this team that has a stacked amount of talent all across the roster.
With a 2-6 record, the Jets’ playoff chances are almost gone, if not entirely gone. A loss to the Houston Texans tonight would effectively end their season before November rolls around—yet again. Their season is basically over anyway, but if this team starts 2-7 it will be time for Rodgers to think about calling it a career. This team was better off last year, and now they may be heading for a top 5 pick in the NFL draft.
