The New York Jets’ experiment with Aaron Rodgers as their starting quarterback did not work out and did not live up to the lofty expectations. The 2024 season was an absolute nightmare for New York as their head coach, Robert Saleh, got fired after Week 5, their general manager, Joe Douglas, got fired after Week 11, and Rodgers battled a knee, ankle, and hamstring injury and was very inconsistent on the football field. He completed 368 out of 584 pass attempts for 3,897 yards, 6.7 yards per attempt, 28 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, a 90.5 passer rating, and a 48.0 QBR, with an abysmal 5-12 record.

Aaron Rodgers faces an uncertain future with the Jets. He is in the final year of his 3-year, $112,500,000 contract and has a $2,500,000 base salary and a $23,500,000 cap hit for 2025 and will be an unrestricted free agent next offseason. However, because they are headed towards a rebuild, the team met with Rodgers last week, informing him that they would be moving on from him.

The New York Jets released a statement earlier today stating that they will be moving on from Aaron Rodgers as their starting quarterback. Here’s what Chairman Woody Johnson’s statement read:
“I personally want to thank Aaron for his time at the New York Jets,” said Chairman Woody Johnson in a statement released by the team. “His arrival in 2023 was met with unbridled excitement and I will forever be grateful that he chose to join us to continue his Hall of Fame career. From day one, he embodied all that it meant to be a New York Jet, embraced our fans, and immersed himself in our city. That is what I will remember most when I look back at his time here. He will always be welcome, and I wish him only the best in whatever he chooses to do next.”
