Following the Philadelphia Eagles’ 40-22 triumph over the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, the New Orleans Saints completed the biggest final open secret left in the head coach market by hiring Kellen Moore.
Moore had great success in his first and only season with Jalen Hurts, helping the quarterback Tua Tagovailoa replaced to win the 2017 College Football Playoff national championship over Georgia win the Super Bowl on Sunday.
Moore is inheriting a precarious situation in New Orleans. The Eagles had a solid offensive line, two top-tier wide receivers in AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, Saquon Barkley, and Hurts. The Saints have downgrades at those positions, and the biggest question is at quarterback.
The team reportedly wants to move on from Derek Carr.
New Orleans Saints want to trade Derek Carr

Per Jason La Canfora of the Washington Post, the Saints would be willing to give the QB1 job to second-year quarterback Spencer Rattler if they could find a trade partner for Carr.
Via the Washington Post:
“The New Orleans Saints, who are in about as horrendous of a salary cap situation as imaginable, are letting those who inquire know they would be willing to play this season with Spencer Rattler if someone wants to take Derek Carr off their hands. He also has a terrible contract, and nothing the Saints do this offseason will be easy.”
At 33, Carr has not had the success New Orleans envisioned when they signed him to a four-year deal worth $150 million in 2023. He’s appeared and started in 27 games for the Saints, throwing for 6,023 yards and 40 touchdowns.
Does Kellen Moore prefer Spencer Rattler?

The Saints went 9-8 in 2023 and 5-12 in 2024. Carr missed several games in 2024 due to an oblique injury.
New Orleans selected Rattler in the fifth round of the 2024 draft. He appeared in six games and started in seven, throwing for 1,317 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions.
It appears Moore would prefer to work with Rattler over Carr, especially if the Saints can add more resources in the place of an aging veteran who is overpaid.
