The New York Giants have had a quarterback carousel this season. The latest chapter had rookie sensation Tommy DeVito getting benched at halftime on Christmas Day. Does this mean that head coach Brian Daboll is going in a different direction for Week 17? Well, we now have our answer.
Tyrod Taylor Is Starting in Week 17
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the New York Giants plan to start Tyrod Taylor in Week 17 against the Los Angeles Rams. Taylor entered the second half of the Christmas Day game in Week 16 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite coming up short at the end, it appears his efforts were enough to win the starting job from DeVito in Week 17.
So, how did Tyrod Taylor do in Week 16? Taylor was 7-16 and had 133 passing yards. He also threw a touchdown pass and an interception.
New York Giants Moving Forward
Right now, it does not appear that the New York Giants have a long-term answer at the quarterback position. DeVito’s benching all but confirms it will not be him. The Giants do have to have Daniel Jones come back for at least one more season due to contractual obligations.
However, this benching could get New York back in the mix to draft a quarterback. At the time of writing, the Giants currently hold the fifth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. There is a plethora of quarterback options available that the Giants could take. One of them includes the Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels, who recently declared for the NFL Draft.
