The New York Giants‘ playoff hopes are hanging by a thread. They have to win every single game remaining to have a remote chance of making it. On top of this, they need other games to go their way. With that in mind, head coach Brian Daboll decided to make a change at the quarterback position against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Tommy DeVito Benched in Second Half of Week 16 Game
When the New York Giants had their first offensive drive of the second half, Tommy DeVito was on the sidelines. Considering the Giants were down 20-3 at this point, you can say it was a move Daboll felt needed to be made. Immediately after DeVito got benched, the Giants scored a touchdown to get within 10 points.
DeVito has been a remarkable story this season as an undrafted rookie quarterback who still lives with his parents. In his first seven games this season, DeVito had 1,032 passing yards and eight touchdown passes. In today’s game, DeVito was just 9-16 with 55 passing yards.
Tyrod Taylor Enters Game for New York Giants
Veteran QB Tyrod Taylor replaced DeVito in this game. New York scored a touchdown immediately after Taylor entered. So, how has Taylor done in his brief appearances in 2023? Taylor has 592 passing yards and two touchdown passes this season. Now, Daboll hopes that Taylor can lead the Giants to a remarkable comeback against the Eagles.
