The New York Jets picked up an overtime “road” win over the New York Giants in Week 9 in one of the worst games in recent memory. However, the Giants did make NFL history as they allowed -9 passing yards throughout the game.
The Giants began the game with backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who suffered a ribs injury in the second quarter and was sent to a local hospital to get some tests done. That meant third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito made his NFL debut. Taylor finished 4-of-7 for eight yards while DeVito was 2-of-7 for -1 yard. However, when you account for the 16 yards on the Jets’ four sacks during the game, that is how the -9 team passing yards for the Giants are calculated. The previous record was held by the Tennessee Titans on Oct. 18, 2009, in a game against the New England Patriots.
What will the New York Giants do offensively?
The New York Giants are currently sitting with a 2-6 record and are slated for the third overall pick behind the Carolina Panthers (the pick was traded to the Chicago Bears) and the Arizona Cardinals. That makes things a lot more clear. With the NFL Trade Deadline less than 48 hours away, it is time for the team to begin selling off pieces for draft compensation and hitting the reset button. They officially are in the Caleb Williams sweepstakes for the number one pick.
The Giants are not able to move the football consistently as they are averaging 267.9 total yards per game. With Daniel Jones slated to aim for a Week 10 return, the team is done for this season. However, with the way his contract is set up, the Giants can move on from him in 2025 so maybe next year is a pivotal year and New York has a rookie sit behind him and learn or even start ahead of Jones.
This Giants team has running back Saquon Barkley and tight end Darren Waller, who left the game with a hamstring injury. With rookie Jalin Hyatt only having nine receptions as well, they are bereft of talent. It seems with each and every week that last season was an admiration and not the normal. Of course, they can also blame this year on injuries but that would not be conducive for them going forward. This is embarrassing for Big Blue.
